An empirical piece of research investigating social considerations when developing LEZ in European cities.

EDF will pilot and improve the Air Tracker tool, which enables communities and city officials to identify where local air pollution is coming from anywhere in a city at any time. The tool will be developed so it can be made available to any city worldwide and piloted in Rio De Janeiro and São Paulo by supporting local policy and enforcement.

This project tackles the issues faced by low-income and minority communities disproportionately affected by waste burning, where traditional air monitoring falls short. It aims to establish local air quality monitoring, replace polluting waste facilities with cleaner alternatives, and boost environmental advocacy through wearable sensors.

Collecting and visualising data on air pollution is an essential first step for clean air campaigns. HabitatMap has revolutionised air quality data collection through their low-cost, wearable sensors. Campaigners worldwide use these sensors to advocate for environmental justice.

Support a global network of advanced PM2.5 monitoring sites that improves the quality of global air quality data resources (e.g. global health impact assessments) by improving satellite data and global-scale air quality models. This grant will maintain operations of the network, sustain and enhance both global- and local-scale applications of the data, and diversify SPARTAN’s funding base.

World Athletics plans to leverage marathon events to help engage local communities, recreational runners and city governments on the topic of air quality. Air quality monitoring and engagement campaigns in the lead up and during city marathon events will be used to catalyse raised awareness and city commitment.

This grant support WRI’s CanAIRy Alert programme to launch and run an air pollution forecast tool and pollution origin insights tool. This grant will help develop these further and enable greater usability by the testbed cities, and also enable wider knowledge-sharing between other global south cities.

The Afri-SET centre promotes widespread and responsible uptake of low-cost air quality sensors in West Africa. This will help increase air quality monitoring capacity and directly supporting effective health and environmental policy-making in the region.

This grant will replicate the Paris-based Microsensor Challenge event in Thailand to independently evaluate and compare low-cost air quality sensors. The results will provide users with an independent assessment of the suitability of the low-cost sensor market and its possible uses in the South-East Asian context

This project will deploy a network of air quality sensors in Kintampo. It will analyse the air quality data by drawing on data from a birth cohort study to estimate the effects of ambient air pollution on early life indicators of non communicable disease risk.
